Now THIS is a classy HOMEwork assignment!

“Hi Linda. My daughter is in 7th grade Consumer Science (we use to call it home economics). They have been learning how to cook, desserts, main dishes, knife safety, the dishwasher, etc….. As a homework assignment they were to plan, shop, cook, serve and clean up a meal. She decided to make Tacos, with sides of corn bread and Spanish rice. She also baked a chocolate cake for dessert and chicken quesadillas for appetizers. It was quite a full day for her so I am glad we pick Sunday to do it. She also had a full house: all of her 2 adult sisters, their husbands and brother came over so she served 8. It was a great day to share with her. Taylor is 12 years old in 7th grade, middle school.â€
If you don’t have such an enlightened teacher or program at your child’s school, I strongly suggest that you “assign†these tasks yourself. What a marvelous experience for all! Your “tween†– male or female – will have an experience they will never forget. With a little guidance, they will get a feeling of satisfaction and accomplishment, realize some of the effort you go through regularly, and hopefully be encouraged to try it again and again. Another side benefit – you basically get the night off
Let’s teach our kids that Cooking IS kewl!
