Will I really get sick if I eat raw chocolate chip cookie dough??
My friend Sandi posted this on Facebook. Ok, let me put this to rest - the fear is salmonella from the raw eggs. What is NOT publicized is that most – though not all - salmonella is found on the SHELL! So that method of separating your eggs that Grandma taught you - transferring the yolk back and forth between the two shell pieces? NOT a good idea, especially if the whites will not be cooked. But odds are in your favor that cookie dough will not make you sick - unless you eat too much of it, of course wink The USDA will advise you to err on the side of caution - and I certainly don’t recommend eating raw cookie dough in massive quantities or on a regular basis – but a few bites of that irresistible mixture every once in a while is definitely a chance worth taking.
