FAQ - sort of...

Hey, SPAMMERS!
I have already blocked a few thousand of you, and I will keep on doing so. WHAT exactly is your point?

There are NO monetary transactions here, just some good ole folks trying to share some cooking ideas. I fail to see any purpose to your constant abuse.

Please, go away! There is nothing for you here. If you must be obnoxious, do it somewhere else?!?

Or better yet - GROW UP!

Spam

Let me KNOW...
Ironically, as I have done my best to help build this site's membership, there have been those of a nastier ilk trying to post hidden messages or simply post a ton of SPAM!

I don't want either, and I'm quite sure that you don't. In efforts to avoid those, we may have created a couple glitches...

Overthinking
IF you should experience what I've been told is the most common message, "That doesn't appear to be a valid email address", I apologize. In the meantime, please go to our "Contact Us" page, and scroll to 'Linda' and send me an email. All I need to set up an account for you (I can do it through a back door?) is what you want as a login, and how you want your articles/comments signed, if different.

I'll give you some silly password which I'll email you back with, and you can change it anytime you like by going to 'Settings', once you've signed in.

This is really embarrassing. It's NOT our fault! Some hackers do good - others simply ... AAURGH!!!! Yeah, this is a FAMILY site, so that's all I'll say wink

Trust me - if you want to share recipes, ask questions, tell stories about your family experiences involving food - you've found the right place.

Much love to you all!

Did I forget to mention...
Since the hackers are still still trying to mess up what you and I care about, any new membership is being held for Admin approval.

I sincerely apologize to any of you who are legitimately interested in contributing to this site - this will pass...

I've asked one of my favorite tech guys to try to sort out who is legit, and who is not... I can make some guesses, but I'd rather rely on his expertise.

Thanks for your patience!!!!

Sorry, guys...
We got hacked. There is nothing of value on this page, other than to me and hopefully you.

My IT buddy is on it - most has been cleared up, but I can't post more than a few lines without it overlapping into the previous story...

We'll be back into full swing as soon as we are able.

Send some hugs?

I learned something new!
When “lovechild” posted her Mumbai Chicken recipe, she uploaded incredible pictures to be included in the method. But neither she nor I could get them to show! With the help of a tech savvy friend (Thanks again, H!), I found out that one of our software links hadn’t been downloaded correctly (now fixed), and that a little more html language is required. But you don’t have to worry about any of that wink When you want to post a picture into the body of your recipe, please do the following: 1) Upload the image into the Gallery 2) Highlight and then Copy the name our software assigns it 3) Paste the name where you want your picture 4) Highlight the name again (in the place you want), then scroll down to the icons 5) Click on the “tree”, that gives the bubble word “Image” You should see something like this:

We’ll take it from there! p.s. Your recipe and pictures won’t show right away – an Admin/Moderator has to see it and click a few things for it to be published. Don’t worry – you probably did it right!

So many memories revolve around food…
Let’s face it – while it may not have been the focal point, EVERY family or friendly gathering has something to munch on. And sometimes, the dish that was involved evokes so many special memories… It could be something that could have been tragic that turned into a perennial joke that only your family “gets”. It could be a recipe that could be ”lost”, because that special person who created it is no longer here? Or how about a treat that you absolutely adore - not just because it tastes sublime, but because you know that it is prepared by an incredible person in your life… The original thought in creating this site was to have a place where we could all share those kinds of stories. My voice shouldn’t be the only one you hear. Yes, I love cooking – but it takes a back seat to the pleasure (both in the eating and the telling) that I hope I can share. Putting your story down in words can bring you joy as well. Laugh or cry about your kitchen failures, delight in the triumphs – all of that can be shared here. Preserve your Grandparent’s special recipe for the ages… Rant away (remembering that this is a family site wink ) about a recipe that just DIDN’T work – we could all use the warning! Did you just whip up something from your heritage or maybe just a little “odd” from your pantry?? Tell us how you did it, and all pictures are gratefully posted! If you enjoyed it, we all would love to know more. Write, write, WRITE!!! This is YOUR place.

How to Submit a Recipe
When “Janice” asked her Forum question (Your Input), she had uncovered an update that had been missed in our server migrations. Thanks – it is now fixed!!!!! But just in case you still have a question: First, to contribute any content to the site, you must be a member. If you have not yet joined our community, click on Membership & Privacy for detailed info. Once you’ve logged in, click on “Read & Submit Recipes”; you will see a list of any previous submittals, or if it’s your first time, the list should be blank. At the bottom of the form will be the phrase “Manage my Recipes” – click there. Next is the option of “Edit, New, or Delete” – check “New” and hit “Update” at the bottom of the page. A pretty self-explanatory form will present itself – just fill in the blanks as you can. If you don’t know the nutritional value, for example, don’t worry about it; but ALWAYS give credit if the recipe is not completely original. Adaptations and vague descriptions are okay, especially if it’s an old family recipe, but please take a moment to thank whoever inspired you. Now, the most important step – click “Update” again when you’re done! You’ll get a message that says something like “the admins will have to approve your submittal”; normally, it will be posted within 24 hours, depending on my “day job” schedule wink On behalf of all of our readers, we look forward to seeing your favorite delights!
