Father’s Day Review
It turned out that we had EIGHTEEN people show up for dinner at the lake! And EVERYONE brought something… I must confess that Jeff & I had concentrated on dinner – and apparently, no one had given much consideration to lunch? Then we had a “genius” moment…We had been nibbling on the cheese tray, dip, sausage and crackers Mom & Papa had brought, but by 2pm some were getting hungrier. As I had brought the makings for shrimp scampi, Denny had planned on mushroom caps stuffed with crab (recipe pending), Heather brought a great corn based dip (ditto wink) and Jeff had mussels… We had an appetizer buffet – for lunch!!! Yum, YUM, YUMMY!!!! Okay, we boiled some hotdogs for the kids… By 7pm we had grilled all the potatoes wrapped in bacon (placed in the oven to keep warm), grilled all the steaks, brought out Aunt Pat’s Salad, the two kinds of sour cream dip for the potatoes (one with maple syrup, the other with onion), sautéed onions and shrooms, even potato salad… Let’s face it, we stuffed ourselves! Then in addition to the three pies I had made (loved by all!), we had Aunt Pat’s apple pie and her “Tastycake” sheet cake (yes, I’ve asked for it!). ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING WAS MARVELOUS!!!! Years ago after a dinner at a fabulous restaurant I had stated “I need to go home and die in my own bed” I was so full. My Mom quoted me on the ride home, feeling the same… and I bet we weren’t the only ones feeling that way Sunday night wink
